Why is stainless used with such timbers as Oak?
- Durability: Stainless steel is a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material that can withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions and other environmental factors. Oak is a hardwood that is known for its strength and durability. When used together, stainless steel and oak can provide a long-lasting and durable solution that can withstand wear and tear over time.
- Aesthetics: Stainless steel and oak offer a visually appealing contrast in design. The natural warmth and texture of oak can be complemented by the sleek, modern appearance of stainless steel, creating a stylish and contemporary look.
- Stability: Oak has a tendency to expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity, which can lead to warping and cracking over time. Stainless steel is a stable material that does not expand or contract, making it an ideal material to use in conjunction with oak to help stabilize it.
- Corrosion resistance: Oak contains tannins, which can cause corrosion in certain metals. Stainless steel is highly corrosion-resistant and does not react with tannins, making it a good choice to use with oak.
- Strength: Oak is a strong material, but it can be prone to splitting or cracking when screws or other fasteners are used. Stainless steel fasteners can provide additional strength and stability, while also complementing the overall design aesthetic.
